Grey is the New Beige

To us, interior design students, grey is an essential color for the majority of our color pallets. Grey is not as clear as black and white. Sometimes it looks black, sometimes blue, and it can even look pink or purple. There are so many shades of grey when it comes to home decor, furnishings and of course wall paint. The question to ask is whether you want to go warm or cold? Do you want shades of grey that lean more toward brown or blue? The endless possibilities with grey are what makes it such a successful staple color.

Here are some trending grey home furnishings and accessories:

  1. I really enjoyed this post because gray is definitely a color I find myself using often. It is a great alternative to a boring white and ganging the hue of this color can drastically change the feeling of a room.

  4. I agree that there are many options about "gray" of different shades, tones, hue etc. To me, utilizing gray is somewhat tuff because it may result an odd feeling when not used properly. Also, there are over 40 gray shade markers available (i.e. COPIC) which tricked me a lot when rendering an image using markers. I wish we had a lesson just about colors.

  5. I like this post because it includes furniture and fixtures. When I think of beige I think of wall paint, so I thought the post was about grey wall paint. This is a good direction to go in because I think neutral colors, grey for example, can be utilized very well in furniture, fixtures, and equipment. Non neutral colors can be on the walls, floor and ceiling in order to create a more dynamic space. As trends come and go paint can easily be changed but neutral furniture and fixtures can morph with trends via pillows and other accents.

  8. I think that this is a fun post Mackenzie! Grey is one of those colors that we rely on heavily without realizing it because of how versatile and adaptable it is. I don't know that I've ever seen a situation where using a touch of grey didn't apply. It is important to keep in mind that there are a variety of greys as well, some are cool, some are warm, etc. Thanks for posting this!

  10. Gray is such an under-rated color! It is such a complex color - it can have any number of undertones - it can be warm or cold - it is a timeless color. Like Moon said, I have 30+ different Gray markers in my marker set. I just wish we had more classes about color and how it is 'made' - I struggle everyday trying to pick the 'right' color.
